Liam Neeson plays the iconic private detective Philip Marlowe who makes his return to the big screen after 40 years. With this role, Neeson may be credited with his 100th film appearance. The crime film ‘Marlowe’ is directed by Neil Jordan, known for amongst others ‘The Crying Game’ for which he received an Oscar. The story is based on John Banville’s novel ‘The Black-Eyed Blonde’. Diane Kruger and Jessical Lange will also appear in the film next to Neeson. ‘Marlowe’ saw its world premiere during the prestigious San Sebastian Film Festival and will hit Dutch cinemas on 16 March.
Synopsis
For private detective Philip Marlowe (Liam Neeson) business in Los Angeles has been somewhat slow of late. Then a new client arrives: the young and attractive Clare Cavendish (Diane Kruger), daughter of Hollywood actress Dorothy Quincannon (Jessica Lange). She wants Marlowe to trace her former lover, drugs dealer and ladies’ man Nico Peterson. He was allegedly killed in front of the Corbata Club, an exclusive club of the rich and famous of LA, but Clare is convinced that he is still alive, and his death was staged.
During his investigation Marlowe not only falls under the spell of the seductive Clare, but also gets caught up in the shady business that turns out to be happening behind the scenes of the Corbata Club and Hollywood’s film industry. It becomes painfully clear that Bay City’s wealthiest families and most powerful residents are willing to do anything to protect their fortunes.
