On 23 March 2023 film distributor Just Entertainment releases ‘Alice, Darling’ in Dutch cinemas. The lead role in this psychological thriller is performed by Anna Kendrick, known for ‘Twilight’, ‘Pitch Perfect’ and ‘Up in the Air’, for which she received an Oscar nomination. Kendrick plays Alice, a woman who is trapped in a destructive relationship. ‘Alice, Darling’ is the feature film debut of director Mary Nighy, daughter of Bill Nighy, who was an actress played in amongst others Sofia Coppala’s ‘Marie Antoinette’. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this year and received much praise there.
Synopsis
Alice (Anna Kendrick) is trapped in an abusive relationship. She is being psychologically abused by her boyfriend Simon and driven to extremes. When she spends a weekend away with two close friends, Alice gets to know herself anew which allows her to put her life into perspective. Slowly she becomes less dependent on the toxic relationship she is in. But Simon’s revenge is as inevitable as it is devastating and tests Alice’s strength, courage and close friendships.
